"Sewing, Quilting, Fun & Fashion - Oh My!"
Embroidery Designed by Joyce Drexler, Creative Director for Sulky of America.
IT'S TIME TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAM…
Are you asking yourself, "Why would I want to become a Sulky Certified Teacher, NOW of all times?". Find out by clicking here.
Or, perhaps your dream is to just have a fun, 3-day get-away adventure with people who love sewing as much as you do. In either case, we can make your dream come true!
Don't miss the 2011+ fun and festivities! (2011 plus, because we continue the events into early 2012 in the "warmer climates" for the snowbirds and residents there.) We are planning for even more attendees at 22 locations throughout the USA, and now one in Canada, and lots more fun!
More than NINE new projects are planned, each with several techniques. And because you asked for it, some are much more involved than previous years. Visit our website: www.sulky.com to see photos of the new projects as they become available. PLUS… THE information everyone has been asking for:
It can, and we will!
- AND… debuting the two new Sulky Stabilizers that will make you wonder how you ever survived without them!
- ALSO… Introducing the NEW 60wt., Sulky PolyLite Thread!
PRESENTING all these fun, festive and creative projects:
1. NOT YOUR GRANDMA'S APRON!
Using these beautiful Hoffman 2011 Challenge Fabrics, Designer Carol Ingram has created an apron that (as she so succinctly says…) "Will blow your dress up!"! For those of us who have thus far resisted the apron craze, this one will win you over!
The bib has a beautiful computerized embroidery of a hummingbird and flower (already done and provided by Sulky) from Joyce Drexler's "Abstract Flowers" card. You will also receive the design file to do more at home if desired, if you have an embroidery machine.
Aprons were everywhere at the 2010 Houston International Quilt Market!
2. TECH TOTE
We are all hauling around (at the very least) a cell phone, and often I-Pods, MP-3 Players, Blackberries, etc. And every kid in our lives is also carrying around Game-boys, cell phones, I-Pods, etc. So Carol Ingram designed this fun mini-tote that makes a perfect gift for everyone in your life. It started out as a Doggie Treat Bag - so even the most tech-resistant friend or family member could benefit from this project!
3. SERENITY DUCK - STAGGERED BARGELLO
Fearless, no-match bargello, and a ready-made, pre-cut pintail duck appliqué - a recipe for success. We will show you several methods of appliqué that will win over the most appliqué/quilt resistant among you. This beautiful wallhanging is easy and fun, but still elegant and intricate looking. Even a quilting newbie will love this easy staggered bargello technique and the
amazing ease of using pre-cut appliqués. The unusual staggered-bargello finished, bottom-binding makes this project especially unique.
Several other appliqué techniques will also be shown.
4. BODACIOUS BAG
Quilted bags were everywhere at the Houston International Quilt Market this year. This gorgeous bag, designed by Carol Ingram, will give Vera Wang a run for her money! This is high-fashion fun. You'll want to make a dozen when you get home.
5. HAUGHTY HAT - Coordinating with the BODACIOUS BAG!
A simple, easy-to-pack hat that matches the high-fashion Bodacious Bag. Designed by Ellen Osten, who spends most of her life on the road, this packable hat can be worn to dinner or to the beach!
Fabrics for the Bodacious Bag and Haughty Hat will be from this exciting, brand-new, Benartex collection shown here.
6. EXQUISITE CONFETTI RIBBON SCARF
Ellen Osten was inspired to create this scarf after seeing a VERY EXPENSIVE version in an upscale museum. Ellen has chosen these elegant, high-fashion ribbons for you to create your own
museum masterpiece. Be prepared to make some for all your friends once they see yours!
7. MEASURING BUDDY
Here's our Froggie with a magic measuring twanger! Jean Sands has designed lots of these adorable Measuring Buddies. A must-have for every sewing room, knitting bag, and more. The perfect quick gift that will make your loved ones smile! You'll love the beautiful batik fabrics.
Jean says...
"This pattern is a fun way to use or recycle scraps of fabric. Any type of fabric can be used, not just cotton since the frog's body is stabilized using Sulky Soft 'n Sheer Stabilizer."
And… Paying It Forward:
We have started a tradition of "Paying it Forward" with our Sulky Certified Teacher Training events. We started in a small way, using Breast Cancer Support Fabric to make a placemat each year…
8. "FOR A CURE" PLACEMAT
It is an honor to support the fabric companies and designers who have created beautiful breast cancer research support fabric. It is a joy to create this placemat featuring these fabrics. But more than that, we have a duty to "Pay it Forward". The sewing industry has prospered in this difficult economic climate. Charities at home and nationwide have suffered. Many of us have turned to sewing and quilting for economy, practicality, gift making and community support. We hope we can encourage you and your friends in your local community to pay it forward and "Create for a Cause". Do what you can, where you are. It's easy to "bloom where you are planted". Sulky is a proud sponsor of the website: www.stitchingforpink.org which features Breast Cancer Research Support Embroideries and more.
And Another Fun Way to Contribute…
Boulder Creek Designs
9. PILLOW/QUILT FOR A CAUSE
We found this adorable Pillow/Quilt at the Houston International Quilt Market in the Boulder Creek Designs booth. Diane Kleinhans designed this simple pattern with 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the patterns going to the "Home of Hope - Texas". This is a home that will house girls and women rescued from Human Trafficking. It's real and it's happening in her city and probably yours. For more information look at their website.
Country Mouse Fabric by Quilting Treasures for the Pillow/Quilt
This is the fabric (not yet printed) that will be used for your Pillow/Quilt. We fell in love with this adorable fabric when we saw the paper version at Quilt Market. There are lots of accessories for this fabric, including rubber stamps, cups, note cards, key rings, t-shirts, totes and more including a U.S. Postal Stamp! There is even a "Mice Blog" (really? who
would have thought!?). And we are hot on the trail of reported matching computerized embroidery designs. There is someone in your life or in your community who would be thrilled to receive this adorable project. Or, it makes a perfect travel Pillow/Quilt to keep in your car for snoozing on the road. It might be just too cute to give away!
And when you do your pay-it-forward projects, don't forget our brave service men and women and veterans. There are many sewing projects and groups out there to benefit our service people, too.
(NOTE: These projects may be altered slightly to conform to class time constraints or other unforeseeable issues.)
YOU'LL ALSO LEARN HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY MARKET YOUR OWN CREATIVE PROJECTS
In this economy, a lot of us are using our sewing skills to save money by making clothing and gifts. Some of us are even hoping to sell some of our creative projects. But where do we start? How do we succeed? We'll show you ways to help you successfully market your projects and/or your teaching skills.
