Follow these simple steps to create a
colorful seasonal design that will set the pace for a festive fall
wardrobe.
|
Step 1
Iron Totally Stable over the inside front of the shirt where
the embroidery motif will be stitched. |
|
|
Step 2
Center pattern on the front of the garment; with a chalk
marker, mark placement for the Appliques. Draw horizontal lines to
keep the design level. |
|
|
Step 3
Trace the Applique Designs onto Steam-A-Seam 2 and fuse them
onto the back of the Applique Fabrics. Cut out the designs. |
|
|
Step 4
Position the large Pumpkin and fuse it onto the shirt. |
|
|
Step 5
Spray the pattern of a small Pumpkin with Sulky KK 2000
Temporary Spray Adhesive. Smooth a piece of Sulky Solvy over the
pattern. Trace the small Pumpkin Design onto the Solvy using a
fine-line, permanent-ink marker. |
|
 |
Enlarge for desired size.
Mirror for an additional Fabric Pumpkin. |
|
Step 6
Decide where you want to place the small Puffy Pumpkins to
create the design you desire. |
|
|
Step 7
Hoop the garment and Solvy tracing of the first small Pumpkin,
and free-motion embroider the leaves and stem. (See set-up for
Free-Motion under Step 10.) Remove excess Solvy. |
|
|
Step 8
Spray the back of a small piece of Orange Puffy Foam with KK-
2000. Carefully place it over the area just embroidered, lining it
up with the stem and leaves. Using an extra-fine, permanent-ink
marker, trace just the Pumpkin onto Solvy and secure it over the
Puffy, with the garment, in an embroidery hoop. Set up for
machine-fed stitching. Reduce the foot pressure and top tension
slightly. Place a teflon foot or an open-toed applique foot on the
machine. Using a tapered satin stitch, stitch the Pumpkin body. |
|
|
Step 9
When the small Pumpkin has been stitched once, the Puffy Foam
will be perforated, allowing it to be removed easily. To shrink
Puffy pokies back into the design, steam the embroidered piece
repeatedly while holding the iron only 1/2 inch above the surface.
If needed, restitch again using a slightly wider stitch width. |
|
|
Step 10
Set up machine for Free-Motion.
- Lower or cover feed dogs. · Lower top tension a lot.
- Place Darning Foot on Machine. · Select Straight Stitch.
- Thread up with Accent Thread Color
(we used #1156 Rayon and #8011 Sliver Metallic).
- Hoop design (move hoop as needed; avoid hooping over Puffy).
Free-motion stitch around the outside edge of the Fabric Pumpkins
using forward and backward movements. Outline the entire Pumpkin,
Leaves and Stem the same way, going over it several times. Add
Sliver accents where appropriate. Change your stitch to zig-zag and,
using a side-to-side motion, stitch a grassy impression under the
Pumpkins, creating ground. Using a small zig-zag stitch or straight
stitch, free-motion scribe the words Pumpkin Harvest 98,
if desired. |
