Hi Everyone,

As I write this, Carol Ingram, Patti Lee and I are off to Cleveland, OH to tape two more shows with Quilting Arts on PBS-TV. (While Patti doesn't appear on camera, she does do all of the very important things to make sure that Carol and I are ready to tape! We couldn't do it without her.) We'll share the new programs with you next month.

It's been a busy August, putting the finishing touches on the new book, An Updated Supplement to Sulky Secrets to Successful Stabilizing (#900B-17). This book focuses on the 7 newest Sulky Stabilizers that we have introduced since I did the original book. It is now in the hands of the printer who assures us that we will have the finished product ready to ship to stores very early in September. I hope you will ask your local retailer to order one for you.

I know the title is kind of dry but those of you who have the original book know that the projects in that book were spectacular, and the ones in this new supplement are even more exciting. (I admit I'm a little biased, having just spent the last six months of my life immersed in it.) I really enjoyed writing this book, and we have some truly inspiring and fun projects. The variety of projects by well-known designers range from beautiful art-quilt wallhangings, wearables, jewelry, home-dec, and felted art for both wearing and framing! There is something for everyone who sews in this comprehensive supplement. Look for more of the projects shown below in the "Sneak Peek".

There is already a lot of enthusiasm about my latest embroidery card: Fabulous Jumbo Ferns by Great Notions - #3020GNP, which I've introduced in this book by featuring some of them on a simple, but lovely, sweatshirt with raw-edge appliqué (see photo below). Also shown in the book is the Fern Pillow, and the directions for that are included with the embroidery card.

The directions for the fern quilt itself are not in this latest supplement, but are taken from our last book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky (#900B-16). It is the Les Grand Fleurs Embroidered Wallhanging on pages 88 and 89. This quilt goes together in no time once the embroideries are done.

If you are interested in purchasing my Jumbo Ferns embroidery card, check with your local sewing store or visit either speedstitch.com or greatembroiderydesigns.com.

Some of you have asked about where you can purchase my Cactus Punch embroidery cards, which include the four seasons series: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Again, ask your local sewing store or visit speedstitch.com.

My heart goes into all of these designs and I hope that you enjoy stitching them out and including them in your projects as much as I did drawing and designing them for you.

Until next month - Express Yourself!

JOYCE DREXLER'S NEW EMBROIDERY CARD

As though Mother Nature herself waved her magic wand, Joyce has managed to capture all of nature's nuances of form and palette from the delicate Asparagus Fern to the bold statement of the Painted Fern. Joyce has created over 20, 5" x 7" Ferns of all types for you to embroider on clothing, pillows, throws, wallhangings, framed art, etc. And there's more! Each of the fill-pattern ferns is included as a redwork-outline design on this same embroidery card. Be sure to ask your local sewing store to carry Joyce's "Preferred Greens Collection" of Sulky 40 wt. Rayon Thread which match the colors Joyce used on the fern quilt. To purchase Fabulous Jumbo Ferns by Great Notions - #3020GNP, check with your local sewing store or visit: speedstitch.com or greatembroiderydesigns.com.

The bird sweatshirt project is in the newest Sulky book:
An Updated Supplement to Sulky Secrets to Successful Stabilizing (#900B-17). The Pillow Project is included with the embroidery card, and the directions for the wallhanging itself are in the book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky (#900B-16).

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times.

FREE Project of the Month

3-D Fall Fabric Leaves

Designed by Joyce Drexler from the book, Sulky Secrets to Successful Appliqué (#900B-14).

"These beautiful Fall leaves are easy and fun to make with either a free-motion or machine-fed satin stitch. Making Solvy leaves is merely an introduction to what you can do with Sulky Water Soluble Stabilizers. I hope they inspire you to do more of this kind of 3-dimensional appliqué. This is really one of my favorite shirts and I have worn it every Fall for several years. I hope you enjoy making and wearing yours as well."
