Dear Sulky Friends,

It's September already, and here in the NC mountains it's beginning to feel like Fall - cool nights and heavenly days. This week my husband, Fred, is at Pfaff Convention in Dallas, TX where there is much excitement about the introduction of a new top-of-the-line Pfaff sewing machine.

Fred is also teaching 3 "Make-it/Take-it" classes featuring the "Fabric Rag Bowl" from our newest book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky. This is a photo from the book, but the one they will actually make will be slightly smaller.

Since I would be the one who would normally teach these classes, I feel a little guilty that Fred is having to do it, but with my PBS-TV-show taping schedule this month, I just couldn't go. However, the bowls are so simple, really, and so much fun. The classes are only 45 minutes long, and you really can get a small bowl completely finishing in that amount of time. Do I dare say, "So simple a man can do it"?

We're going to Cleveland to tape a brand new show sponsored by Viking Sewing Machine Co. called "Quilting Arts". Yes, it is related to the magazine of the same name, which is also a sponsor, and Patricia Bolton, who is the editor-in-chief of Quilting Arts, will be the host. Since I first saw that magazine some years ago, it stimulated the artsy side of me immediately. The textures and fibers used in many of their quilts just called to me. To me this magazine is like a "coffee table" quilt book.

I am very excited about this new program because I expect it to offer many variations on traditional wall quilts as well as fiber and texture art. I know everyone isn't into artsy quilts and wearables, but for those of us who crave this type of expression, this will be an exciting venue. I hope you all will watch for it coming to your local PBS station soon, and request it from the station manager if they don't offer it.

We're leaving directly from Cleveland to fly to Iowa to tape with Fons and Porter. Liz Porter and Marianne Fons are such lovely, fun women and we have such a great time every time we do their show. I'll tell you in detail what we did on these shows in the next newsletter.

For those of you who belong to any kind of Guild, look below for information regarding having one of our talented, highly skilled National Educators come to your Guild to present one of three programs that we have prepared especially for Guilds.

Fred and I are planning a long motorcycle trip to New England with our friends, Bill and Carol Ingram, beginning at the end of September. Usually my friend (and VP of Consumer Relations for Sulky), Patti Lee, and her husband go with us, but they have opened a new restaurant in our little town, and their traveling days are over for a while.

I'll have lots to tell you next month about our adventures.

Until next month - Express Yourself!

ANNOUNCING NEW AND IMPROVED SULKY KING SIZE SPOOL LABELS!

Because many of you asked for it, we have finally achieved the much-improved king size spool label. We know you will love the new pre-punched holes and clean and readable print on the new labels. Now it will stay on and you will always be able to know the color number and other pertinent information, and no more sticky residue on your spool pins.

Watch for these new, improved labels coming to your local stores as soon as they start replacing their current stock. Thank you for your patience and continued support of our products. We appreciate your input and suggestions and will continue to improve our product line in every way possible.

SULKY CROCHETED HALLOWEEN SCENE

In July, I shared with you a picture from one of our readers, Ellen Smock of San Diego, CA, of a giraffe, rhino, and tree that was crocheted using Sulky 12 wt. Cotton. Well Ellen is at it again.

Don't you just love this graveyard scene? A mummy, ghosts, a spider, a grave, a bat and more! All crocheted with Sulky 12 wt. Cotton Thread.

Here's a close up of the spider and her web. Thanks, Ellen! What fun!

Free Projects

Don't forget there are about 50 Free Projects on our website in the Project Library. www.sulky.com

Each month we introduce a new one in this newsletter, but there's a terrific library there for you to choose from. You are welcome to share these with your friends, use them for fund-raising projects for your guilds, or even teach a class using one of them, as long as you credit the Sulky website with the information.

Thought for the month

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here right now thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt!

FREE Project of the Month

Resurface With Patchwork and Sulky Sliver

This month we are featuring one of my favorite projects from one of our books (which is saying a lot after 16 books)! Joyce was inspired to create this, as I recall, by staring at a pattern of a fabric on an airline seat. Revive an old denim jacket or vest, or cover a work shirt, or use it as a fabric for a purse, tote bag, or anything really. The piecing is so much fun, I ended up making a whole outfit which was featured on the back cover of our book, Embellishing Concepts in Sulky (#900B-8). Yes, that's me modeling it. (Geez, I looked good in 1994!) I hope you have had fun watching me age and spread! - Patti Lee
