Dear Sulky Friends,

It's June and we're all frantic with graduation events and planning for summer visitors; and I cannot believe how many June birthdays there are among my friends and family. There must have been too many TV reruns in many of the Septembers over the years!

So I'm madly knitting and sewing and quilting, hoping to have handmade gifts for everyone. It's good to have goals.

Last month I shared with you the "Beginner Free-Motion Quilting Sampler" from my newest book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky. I promised you then that this month I would show the same sampler done with computerized embroidery. I know some of you think you cannot afford a computerized machine right now, but there really are some mid and lower priced computerized embroidery machines that are very affordable. It's a great way to get into it reasonably and see if it turns out to be the very thing you've always wanted to do.

Since all of these very affordable machines do the 4" x 4" designs, that's what I've chosen to feature in the computerized embroidery version of this little quilted sampler wallhanging. What a great way to learn quilting and embroidery at the same time without taking on a huge, daunting project. It's easy and fun, and is done in no time so you can quickly go on to another one!

June is also the month in which Carol Ingram and I tape another PBS TV show in Cleveland, OH. It's a lot of work getting ready for the taping, but the reward afterward is two whole days of fun and quilting with our dear friends, Bev and Nancy at Abigayle's Quiltery in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.

You need to do that too! Get your friends together and sew or quilt together at least one day a week. It's so much more fun with friends. Granted, we talk and laugh a lot, and don't always get our projects done, but there's always next weekend!

Until next month - Express Yourself!

FREE-MOTION MADE EASY!
A Beginner Free-Motion Quilting Sampler

As Joyce mentioned above, last month we shared lots of free-motion techniques in making this little wallhanging sampler. This month, we'll show you the same sampler done with computerized embroidery.
This little wallhanging is the perfect palette for 4" x 4" embroideries. If computerized embroidery is not an option for you, then how about using some photos of your family, printed on fabric printer sheets? It's simple enough to finish quickly for those times when a full-size quilt is just not an option. It's the perfect learning tool for beginners, too. Shown step-by-step in the new book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky.
Here's a close-up of this beautiful design, one of 22 matching designs on the "Pressed Leaves 1" card by Joyce Drexler for Great Notions (43009GNP). There are 22 different leaves, artfully illustrated with amazing detail. The twig/branch framing around each design has curlicues and tendrils that add wonderful detail, and make the framing very original. Once assembled, the squares and borders are then stippled with one of the gorgeous Sulky Cotton Blendables.

These were formerly marketed under the Amazing Designs label, but are now Great Notions embroidery cards. If you can't find these designs at your favorite store, tell them to order them at www.sulky.com. Note: So many of us continue to refer to "embroidery cards" but in fact the designs are all on CD's now.

Joyce has also done a similar card featuring flowers with inspirational sayings: "Inspirational Concepts in Sulky" (43000GNP). Click on www.sulky.com to see all of the individual designs in Joyce's embroidery cards that she did for both Great Notions (formerly marketed by Amazing Designs) and Cactus Punch.

New Product Note

Reminder, with the 4th of July right around the corner and all of us praying for and remembering our soldiers, Sulky now has a RED, WHITE AND BLUE multi-color in both 40 wt. Nice words from Elizabeth in Tennessee

We got the kindest note from Elizabeth Owensby from Tennessee last month. She said:
"I just had to write and let you know how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sulky Rayon Thread. I am new to machine embroidery and I can't get enough of your thread! It always stitches out great and looks so professional...even when the one doing the embroidery is not! Thank you again from a happy, loyal customer."

And thank you, Elizabeth, for taking the time to write and tell us these nice things. Patti Lee at asksulky@sulky.com receives and answers each and every e-mail from our consumers. She wants to know when you're happy and when you're not. It's her job to make sure that you're always pleased with both the quality and performance of every Sulky product.

Ribbons Of Thread

I know you'll recognize this well-known quilting artist's work. It's by Libby Lehman and it has become one of her signature pieces. Libby has been commissioned many times to create art quilts for corporations and other organizations. We were lucky enough to have her contribute this project to one of our earlier books, Quilting Concepts in Sulky. It's just a magnificent design that looks equally beautiful on quilts and wearables. Thank you Libby for many years of enjoyment from this project!
