Dear Sulky Friends,

I've been rushing it for two months now, but SPRING is finally here in the mountains of North Carolina! Spring is just such a beautiful time of the year, and for me, it's the season of hope. All those pretty little flowers hopefully poking their heads up to celebrate the incredible weather, and just in time for Easter. It seems I'm always drawn to pastels in the spring. Look at this precious picture of my 15 year old poodle, Bright, in this pastel Moses Baby Basket - doesn't she look hopeful? (Probably hopeful that we'll get her out of the basket!)

This project, by Carol Ingram, Designer and Educator for Sulky of America, is featured in our newest book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky. There are also several adorable, quick and easy baby quilts in this section of the book.

While flowers are appropriate anytime of the year, spring brings just an explosion of color and freshness. One of my newest embroidery cards for Cactus Punch is "Abstract Florals" (Sig 107) which features 8 designs for 4" sewing fields, and 12 designs that are 5" x 7". These stitch out so quickly using Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Blendables which makes them look so rich. There are several pictures below of some of these designs on pillows, but I also really love all of them on tee shirts and overshirts. Though I haven't had time yet, I am mentally moving toward making a quilt using all of these beautiful flowers and hummingbirds. Because they are outline-type designs with just a few color changes, they're done in a matter of minutes, and you get amazing depth and clarity using the Sulky Blendables. Because of the thread choices, I think you'll find that they look every bit as rich as dense, high thread-count designs.

These designs also make quick and easy gifts. They could be used on all kinds of home-dec items like placemats, napkins, tissue box covers, and even curtains and pillows. They're really pretty on garments and could be used on purses, tote bags, etc. They're simple enough that they don't overwhelm you. Patti Lee, Vice President of Consumer Relations for Sulky, is not a "floral" person (as many of you who know her would attest), but she loves these designs "because they don't scream FLOWERS"!

Happy Easter and have a wonderful Spring!

Until next month - Express Yourself!

This pillow has a totally different look using gathered or ruched welting for the edge finish. All of these pillow styles are shown step-by-step in the newest Sulky book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky. For retail sources, go to www.sulky.com.

Did you know that we now have 84 colors of Sulky Cotton Blendables? We started with 42 colors and since the demand for more was so huge, we recently introduced 42 more colors. For those of you who don't know what the Sulky Blendables are:

These exciting new multi-color threads are a masterful blend of different colors within the same range of tone and intensity, with random, subtle color changes every 2-1/2 to 5 inches rather than the 10" lengths in most variegated and multi-colors. They will add excitement to your quilting and everything else you do. They're made of the highest quality, long staple, 100% Egyptian Cotton fibers and come in 84 colors in both 12 wt. and 30 wt. snap-end King Spools and Jumbo Cones. They're so ideal for quilting, thread lace, bobbin work, thread painting, red work and decorative embroidery, you'll wonder how you ever got along without them. Fortunately, you don't have to get along without them any more.

You can view these spool colors and stitchouts much larger at our website: www.sulky.com

Sulky Cotton solid colors and Sulky Cotton Blendables are only available in independent retail stores across the country. They are not sold in chain stores. April FREE Project of the Month

Dimensional Embroidery

I chose Soft 'n Sheer for this project because it is soft, yet it will support the stitches without adding stiffness. It trims away cleanly from the stitched edge and can even be 'burned' away because of its nylon consistency --Patsy
