Polyester vs. Rayon
- Q: Since it's stronger, why shouldn't I use polyester thread instead of rayon for all my decorative stitching?
- A: The extra strength of polyester is really unnecessary if everything is done properly and you surely don't have the color selection you do in Sulky Rayons. Sulky currently has 388 rayon colors all of which will function beautifully in virtually every sewing machine. Sulky Rayon Thread is made from the very highest quality raw goods available in the world and it is the number one choice of consumers all over the United States and Canada because of its strength, warm beauty and color selection.
- Polyesters, while stronger to the touch, have more stretch and much more memory, which causes them to stretch further and return to their original shape. This can create a puckering problem if not dealt with properly by adjusting tensions and increasing stabilizing. Occasional thread pull-ups or loops on top are a common occurrence with any polyester.
- Sulky Rayon, on the other hand, stretches less and then relaxes so the stitches lay beautifully, and since beauty is the whole reason for decorative thread, hundreds of thousands of people prefer Sulky Rayon for its warmer look and feel.
