By Joyce Drexler

Two of the hottest trends in sewing today, Quilting and Home Dec, come together in the newest Sulky book, Quick and Easy “Weekend Quilting with Sulky”, by Joyce Drexler. This book contains quilts and projects that are very diverse and include a wide range of fun and easy techniques. Most quilts have several versions in a variety of different fabrics.
The Weekend Quilting with Sulky book contains 176 full-color pages with step-by-step instructions for every project. If you are new to quilting you’ll appreciate the sampler quilt featured in the book that teaches all the basics for making a quilt or a wallhanging. With this little sampler, even a beginner can confidently create most of the quilts featured in the book.

It includes all the basic information needed for:

  • Fabric Selection
  • Pressing Tips
  • Fabric Keys
  • Stabilizers for Quilters
  • Sashings and Borders
  • Making a Quilt Sandwich
  • Free-motion Quilting and Hand Quilting
  • Quick Reference Guide for Quilting Threads and Needles
  • Which Sulky Threads to choose for your project
  • Why Sulky Rayon Thread made from Enka fibers is the best on the market today

The inspiration for this book came about as a result of many joyful quilting weekends at Abigayle’s Quiltery in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. The owners, Beverly Morris and Nancy Bryant were gracious hosts to Joyce Drexler (the author) and her friends, Sue Hausmann, Patti Lee and Carol Ingram.

At least 4 times a year, Joyce and Carol tape segments of the PBS-TV programs “America Sews with Sue Hausmann” and “America Quilts Creatively” in Cleveland and they were invited to sew at Abigayle’s each weekend following the tapings. Beverly and Nancy generously shared their skills and quilt patterns with the rest of the creative group.

Many of the quilts in Weekend Quilting with Sulky are Beverly and Nancy's creations, as were the many hints, tips and techniques that they share in the book. Beverly and Nancy invite you to visit their shop if you have the opportunity to visit this quaint historical area in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.

Kits for many of the quilts featured in this book as well as many of the quilting supplies are available from Beverly and Nancy at:
